Most international flights land at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), about 46 km west of the city. The easy way in is the purple Taoyuan Airport MRT straight to Taipei Main Station for NT$160. A smaller number of flights use Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA), which sits right in the city on the MRT. And if you are coming from elsewhere in Taiwan, the high speed rail and trains pull into Taipei Main Station.
From Taoyuan Airport
Airport MRT (the best choice for most people)
- Stations Airport Terminal 1 (A12) and Airport Terminal 2 (A13) to Taipei Main Station (A1)
- Fare NT$160 one way, adult
- Trains express and commuter (all-stops) trains, each about every 15 minutes
- Pay with EasyCard, iPASS or HappyCash; a single-journey token; or a contactless Visa, Mastercard, JCB or UnionPay card or phone wallet
The Airport MRT is run by Taoyuan Metro, separate from the Taipei MRT. Express trains stop at only a few stations and are the ones to catch: the trip took about 35 minutes when the line opened. Commuter trains stop everywhere and take longer; an all-stops train added in September 2026 is timetabled at 46 minutes from Taipei Main Station to Terminal 2.
From A1, the last train toward the airport leaves at 23:38. Plan an early flight with that in mind, and check the timetable for your day, since times change.
- Tickets. Buy a token from the machines or the information counter, or just tap your EasyCard or contactless card. Children under 6 ride free with a paying passenger.
- One Day Pass. NT$320 for unlimited Airport MRT rides on the day you first use it; only worth it if you are making several trips on the line that day.
- In-town check-in. Taoyuan Metro runs in-town check-in at Taipei Main Station (A1) for some airlines, so you can drop your bags before heading to the airport. Check with your airline.
- Changing to the Taipei MRT. A1 is connected to Taipei Main Station, where you change to the Red Line (R10) and Blue Line (BL12). Follow the signs; it is a walk.
Bus
Kuo-Kuang Bus runs coaches between the airport and Taipei Main Station, with counters at the East Gate of Taipei Main Station and at Terminals 1 and 2. Check current fares and times with the operator.
Taxi or Uber
A car is door to door and makes sense with heavy luggage or a group. Uber's page for Taoyuan Airport put the average fare to or from Taipei at about NT$1,442 when we checked. → Taxis and Uber
Good to know: the Skytrain between Terminals 1 and 2 has been suspended since July 1, 2026 for Terminal 3 works. To change terminals, use the Airport MRT (A12 and A13 are one stop apart) or the 24-hour shuttle bus.
From Songshan Airport
Songshan Airport is in the city itself, with its own station on the Brown Line: MRT: Songshan Airport Station (Brown Line, BR13). For Taipei Main Station, ride the Brown Line to Zhongxiao Fuxing (BR10) and change to the Blue Line toward Dingpu for Taipei Main Station (BL12). A taxi into most central neighborhoods is a short ride.
By high speed rail or train
Taiwan High Speed Rail (HSR) and Taiwan Railway (TRA) trains both stop at Taipei Main Station, which is also on the Red Line (R10), the Blue Line (BL12) and the Airport MRT (A1). The HSR also stops at Nangang and Banqiao, which can be handier for the east of the city and for New Taipei.
