Taipei Neighborhoods

Seven neighborhoods, each on the MRT: what they are like and where to start.

Taipei is a city of neighborhoods, and every one we cover here sits on the MRT. If you have a few days, the classic mix is one old neighborhood (Wanhua or Dadaocheng), one modern one (Xinyi or Ximending), one for food and cafes (Da'an or Zhongshan), and Beitou for a hot spring afternoon.

Good pairings for one day: Ximending and Wanhua (one stop apart on the Blue Line), Dadaocheng and Zhongshan (a short walk or one stop apart), and Da'an and Xinyi (a few stops apart on the Red Line). → Itineraries

Good to know: the MRT is the easiest way between all of these, and it was our favorite thing about living in Taipei. Tap in with an EasyCard and you rarely need anything else. → The MRT · Where to stay
