Yehliu Geopark (野柳地質公園) is a narrow cape on the north coast where wind and waves have carved the rock into strange shapes. The star is the Queen's Head, a rock with a long neck and a regal profile, and there is usually a queue to photograph it. It is an easy half day by bus from Taipei, and a natural pairing with Tamsui along the coast.

How to get to Yehliu from Taipei
The geopark lists these buses from Taipei, all heading for Jinshan along the coast:
- Kuo-Kuang Bus 1815 (國光客運, Taipei Station to Jinshan Youth Activity Center): get off at Yehliu (野柳站). Its Taipei boarding point has moved in recent years, so check the current one with Kuo-Kuang before you go.
- Keelung Bus 1068 (基隆客運, National Taiwan University to Jinshan) and 953 (from National Taiwan University or Taipei Tech): the geopark lists the Yehliu and Yehliu Geopark stops for these routes.
From Keelung, Keelung Bus 790 and 862 stop at Yehliu. From Tamsui, the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle 716 (Crown North Coast line, 台灣好行皇冠北海岸線) runs to the Yehliu Geopark stop, which makes a Tamsui and Yehliu day possible. → Tamsui
What to see
The paths run out along the cape from the entrance. The famous rocks, the Queen's Head among them, are in the first stretch, so that is where the crowds are; the further you walk toward the tip of the cape, the quieter it gets, with the sea on both sides. Stay on the marked paths and away from the water's edge: the rocks are fragile and the waves are strong.
Timing tips
- Arrive at opening. The tour buses arrive mid-morning, and the Queen's Head queue grows with them.
- Bring sun protection and water. There is little shade on the rocks.
- Check the weather. The north coast is windy and wet in winter, and the park can close for typhoons.
- Book online if you like. The geopark links to an online ticket on its website.
Yehliu sits on the coast next to Keelung, home of the Miaokou Night Market, one of Taiwan's best known. If you pass through Keelung on the way back, NightMarket.tw has the details on Miaokou.
