Wulai: A Day Trip from Taipei

An Atayal mountain village with hot springs, a trolley train and a waterfall.

Wulai (烏來) is an Atayal village in the mountains south of Taipei, where two rivers meet in a green gorge. It is one of the hot spring areas closest to the city, and a day here mixes a soak with a walk up the old street, the Atayal Museum, a ride on a tiny trolley train and a tall waterfall. It is calmer and greener than the coast trips, and an easy MRT and bus ride away.

  • MRT Xindian Station (Green Line, G01), 21 minutes from Taipei Main Station, NT$30
  • Bus Xindian Bus 849 to Wulai, about every 10 to 15 minutes
  • Best for Hot springs, Indigenous culture, river and forest
  • Time A half day, or a full day with a long soak
